Sue John, an independent Australian reimbursement consultant will give a 2-hour presentation about the Reimbursement of medical technology in Australia.
About the Seminar:
The reimbursement of medical technology in Australia is complicated and occurs in many forms, some of which are interrelated and some of which are stand-alone programs. There are informal funding pathways as well as formal reimbursement systems. In the presentation, Sue will explain the roles of the three major payers for healthcare: the Commonwealth (Federal) government, State and Territory governments and private health insurance funds.
Moreover, the presentation will cover payers, decision-makers, technology inclusion criteria, patient eligibility criteria, application process, cycle and fees for a number of different public and private funding pathways; Public and Private Hospital Funding, Public and Private Hospital Purchasing, Commonwealth Government Funding Schemes, Department of Veterans Affairs Funding Schemes, State Government Funding Programs, Medicare, Private Health Insurers and Patient Self-Pay.
After the presentation, Synergus will host a Mix and Mingle Session where you will have the opportunity to discuss Australian and European Reimbursement with Sue John and the Synergus team.

Biography:
Sue John, Principal, Open Sesame Consulting
Sue John is an independent consultant with extensive experience in health economics, funding and reimbursement.
Sue worked for Smith & Nephew Wound Management for 11 years; five of those as International Reimbursement Manager where her key responsibility was to provide global leadership in funding and reimbursement strategies. Sue’s skills and experience include developing funding strategies, formal reimbursement submissions and negotiations, cost modelling, budget impact analyses and constructing key economic messages to demonstrate product value.
Prior to Smith & Nephew, Sue spent 6 years in the as Business Manager in the operating suite of a major teaching hospital. Her responsibilities included operating room utilisation, capital equipment procurement, budget management and project management. She has also spent 3 years working as a Health Information Manager. These roles have given Sue a comprehensive understanding of budgets, clinical costing and DRG funding.
As Principal of Open Sesame Consulting, Sue works with medical device companies to develop and implement successful funding and reimbursement strategies and to drive sales with health economic messages that demonstrate product value.
